The Utah Reference Network GPS

TURN GPS is a network of permanently located GPS receivers, installed across the state as shown in the map, through partnerships between Cities, Counties and State using equipment and facilities, to generate real time high accuracy GPS positioning. TURN GPS is used for a range of precision GPS applications including surveying, engineering, construction and GIS data collection. TURN GPS Map

Benefits

  • Ideal for municipal asset management and feature collection.
  • Eliminates traditional time wasting processes to improve GPS data; corrections are given real time in the field.
  • TURN GPS enables high-accuracy positioning in real time over much larger geographic region than standard real time methods, using the internet for communication.
  • It maximizes the performance from a network of reference stations and eliminates the need to set up a temporary field base station for each individual project or post processing data, saving you time and money.
  • It is ideal for any application requiring reliable, fast, high precision wide area positioning.

Cost

  • The cost is $400 per device, per year, a cost well below the national average.
  • The Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC) has worked with the State Legislature to do everything possible to minimize the cost, to encourage the use of the network and allow everyone to use this service to increase the quality of GPS positioning for Surveying and GIS data.

Easy to Use

1. Just power up your GPS receiver
2. GPS receiver connects to network via mobile phone
3. Collect data or navigate to precise positions

TURN GPS provides real time, centimeter accurate corrections tailored for your geographic location.

Complete your project without the delay of a field base station setup.

Map Instructions

Navigation

  • Use the navigation toolbar to move around the map or use the Navigation Panel to geocode an address, zoom to a city, or common place name
  • Use the Select Station button to click on a GPS reference station and get it's information
  • Baseline distances are symbolized as shown below:

  • baseline legend

Navigation Shortcuts

  • Drag the mouse to pan
  • SHIFT + Drag the mouse to zoom in
  • SHIFT + CTRL + Drag the mouse to zoom out
  • Mouse Scroll Forward to zoom in
  • Mouse Scroll Backward to zoom out

* The highest detail zoom level is cache on demand. This means the server will need to dynamically render the vertor and image data when the first requested for that tile is made. Subsequent requests will be much faster as the tile will be stored on disk negating the need to render dynamically.
